What Abacus does

The independent metering and rating engine for usage-based pricing. Per-event pricing, an Apache-2.0 open core, and credit primitives built for the AI era — the calculation layer that never touches your funds.

Pre-launch: Abacus is pre-launch — the v1 product described below is built and tested; the hosted API opens at launch.

Idempotent event ingest

POST /v1/events with an idempotency_key — duplicates are deduplicated before counting, so retries never double-bill.

Flexible meters

Define meters with sum / max / last aggregation and attach tiered price tables. One billable unit per customer-defined meter.

Real-time rating

Invoice preview any time: rated lines with quantities, unit prices, and totals — before anything is charged anywhere.

Prepaid wallets + hard stops

Credit wallets with burndown on finalize. Arm a hard stop and event ingest returns 402 the moment the balance hits zero — machines can't overspend.

Stripe invoice-item push

Push rated lines to real Stripe invoice items against your customer's Stripe customer id — or take a dry-run payload for your own flow. Adyen and manual-export seams included.

Hashed tenant keys, Postgres-ready

Per-tenant API keys stored as SHA-256 hashes. SQLAlchemy 2.0 over Postgres in production, SQLite for dev. Interactive docs at /docs.

Honest scope: this page describes what the v1 product does today. Roadmap items are labeled as roadmap — we don't sell features that don't exist yet.
